Hits galore, Flyers fall for second day

The visiting Joliet JackHammers took the second game in as many nights from the host Schaumburg Flyers at Alexian Field. The JackHammers took a real pitcher's duel from the Flyers, the two teams combined for a total of 34 hits in the nine innings played, the JackHammers coming out on top, 14-9.

For the first time this series, the Flyers held the JackHammers scoreless in their first at bat,

The JackHammers managed to get two across the plate in the second though, off of a single hit through the left side by J.D. Foust, scoring Bubba Smith and Chad Ehrnsberger, to take the 2-0 lead.

In the second the Flyers went on a hitting spree picking up eight consecutive hits. Eric Cole started it out with a single, Josue Lopez and Ben Van Iderstine then singled, Jarrod Patterson doubled, then Tim Marks, Ryan Walked, Geoff McCallum, and Nelson Gord wrapped it up with a single apiece. All in all, six runs scored on eight consecutive hits. The Flyers started the bottom of the second down 2-0 and finished up 6-2, all after batting around.

Joliet closed the gap in the third when, Eddie Rompery crossed the plate off of an infield single that was overthrown at first, hit by John Lackaff. Blake Gill then scored off of a ground out hit by Ehrnsberger, Lackaff was able to shrink the flyers lead to only one run in the third when he scored off of a wild pitch. Flyers starter Ian Holmen was able to get out of the inning knocking down the last two batters on strikes.

Joliet then scored five runs over the next two innings, taking the lead 10-6, in the fifth.

Flyers first baseman Josue Lopez hit a solo-homer in the bottom of the fifth to bring the Flyers within three runs, 10-7.

The JackHammers re-took the four run lead in the seventh when Kyle Nichols hit a solo-shot over the fence, then picked up another run on a single hit up the middle. They were threatening to score another run but left fielder Ryan Walker was able to gun down the runner at home, holding the score at 12-7.

Nelson Gord led off the seventh with a rocket sent over the left field fence, moving the Flyers within four runs. The Flyers were unable to shrink the JackHammers lead any further, finishing the seventh down 12-8.

The JackHammers got in another run in the eighth, Bubba Smith scored on a single hit up the middle by Kyle Nichols, moving to the 13-8 lead.

In the bottom of the ninth, Jarrod Patterson drove in Van Iderstine on his second double of the night, hit to the same location in the left field corner. The Flyers was unable to score again leaving the score 13-9.

The JackHammers took that one back in the ninth when Ehrnsberger drove in Rompery on a single hit through the middle, jumping back out to a five fun lead, 14-9.

The Flyers couldn't get anything else going finishing, losing their second game to the JackHammers in as many days, 14-9.

The Flyers take the day off tomorrow, before meeting up with the Kansas City T-Bones for a three game series beginning Tuesday at Alexian Field. Game time for Tuesday night is set for 7:05.
