
RailCats Announce Opening Day Roster

Gary, Ind. - The 2005 Northern League Champion Gary SouthShore RailCats today announced their 22-man roster that will begin the season on Thursday at Calgary against the Vipers.
The roster includes 10 pitchers, two catchers, five infielders, and five outfielders. It includes seven returning members of the 2005 RailCats; one player with major league experience; and 17 players who have played in a major league farm system.
The roster includes:
Willie Glen, the RailCats number one starting pitcher in 2005. Glen went 9-3 during the '05 regular season and 2-0 in the playoffs. He set club records in strikeouts and winning percentage.
Jay Pecci, the RailCats starting shortstop last season. He led the club in base hits and games played last season.
Tanner Townsend, the RailCats starting third baseman in '05. Townsend led the RailCats in runs scored and runs batted in and then hit .455 in the playoffs.
Travis Kerber, who posted a 5-1 record with a 1.33 earned run average for the RailCats in 2005. He led all Northern League relievers in ERA.
First baseman-outfielder Steve Haake, utility man Alex Taylor, and second baseman Eric McNamee, all of whom played key roles for the RailCats in 2005.
Center fielder Jermaine Allensworth, a veteran with five years of major league experience with the Royals, Pirates, and Mets.
Left fielder Nathan Haynes, a former first round draft pick of the Oakland A's.
Starting pitcher Neal Frendling, a former star at Lake Central High School in Northwest Indiana.
Outfielder Mike Coles, a product of Purdue University and Hammond High School, who made the club after attending the team's try-out camp on May 2nd.

Infielders: Eric McNamee, Jay Pecci, Tanner Townsend, Alex Taylor, Brad Vericker. Outfielders: Jermaine Allensworth, Mike Coles, Steve Haake, Nathan Haynes, Andy Rohleder.
