LAST TIME OUT: Jacob Caffrey made 40 saves on 42 shots and both Zach Nieminen and Mac Jansen scored but the Rail Yard Dawgs were defeated by the Birmingham Bulls in a shootout, 3-2, Saturday night at the Pelham Civic Complex. It was the Dawgs second consecutive overtime loss but extended their point streak to four games.

CELLAR DWELLERS: Evansville enters the weekend with a record of 5-26-2 and its 12 points are eight fewer than anybody else in the SPHL. The Thunderbolts are just 2-14-1 in their last 17 games and prior to a shootout win in Fayetteville on Saturday, they had lost eight in a row, all in regulation. Evansville is just 1-13-1 on the road- prior to Saturday it had only earned a point on the road in a 4-3 OT loss to the Dawgs on November 10. It has the worst power play, penalty kill and goal-scoring defense in the league and the second-worst goal-scoring offense. The Thunderbolts have allowed 128 goals this season and scored only 68.

PICKING UP POINTS: Despite back to back losses, the Dawgs fell in overtime on Friday then in a shootout on Saturday, Roanoke has picked up points in four consecutive games. The Rail Yard Dawgs had won back-to-back games prior to settling for one point in both games in Birmingham last weekend. The four-game point streak is the second longest of the season for the Dawgs, trailing only their five-game winning streak from December 8 to December 22.

BLUE LINE BOLSTERED: Roanoke defenseman Sean Federow was returned from the ECHL's Toledo Walleye on Monday. Federow was called up on January 2 and appeared in eight games for Toledo with one goal and one assist. It was his first career ECHL stint. In 24 games for the Rail Yard Dawgs he has two goals, nine assists and a +6 plus/minus rating.

FLIP THE CALENDAR: The Rail Yard Dawgs went 4-3-2 in their nine games during the month of January. Roanoke scored 24 goals (2.67 GPG) and allowed 25 goals (2.78 GAPG). The Dawgs were just 3-for-34 on the power play in January (8.8%) but went 38-for-43 on the penalty kill (88.4 %).

MORAN'S RETURN: Evansville head coach Ian Moran is expected to be behind the bench on Friday following the conclusion of a one-week suspension by the team. Bo Driscoll, the Thunderbolts Player Operations Coordinator, served as coach in Moran's absence.

ENJOY HOME WHILE YOU CAN...: The Rail Yard Dawgs next six games will take place at home- Roanoke hosts games at Berglund Center on Friday and Saturday of the next three weekends. Following that, the Dawgs will pack their bags for what will be 11 consecutive road games.
