LAST TIME OUT: Mike Moroso's third period goal tied the game at three to force overtime but Evan Neugold scored the game-winning goal in overtime and the Columbus Cottonmouths defeated the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs, 4-3, Saturday night at the Columbus Civic Center.
THE OTHER GUYS: Friday marks the sixth meeting between the Rail Yard Dawgs and the Ice Bears, with Roanoke having gone 0-5-1 and 0-2-1 at home. The Ice Bears offense averages 3.7 goals per game, the second best goal-scoring offense in the league, and their penalty kill is the league's best at 90.4%.
MAS POINTS: Massimo Lamacchia had an assist during Saturday's 4-3 OT loss to the Columbus Cottonmouths and now has points in each of his last five games and six of his last seven. Lamacchia has eight points (1 G, 8 A) over the five-game point streak and is now tied with Tyler Gjurich for the team lead with 21 points (9 G, 12 A). His five-game streak is tied for the second longest by a Rail Yard Dawg this season. Jackson Brewer owns the longest point streak of the season (eight games).
LIGHTING THE LAMP: Mike Moroso scored during Saturday's 4-3 OT loss to the Columbus Cottonmouths, his fourth straight game with a goal. The rookie forward had been held without a goal in each of his previous nine games before beginning his streak. Moroso has five goals over the last four games, pushing his season-long total to six.
COLLECTING POINTS: The Rail Yard Dawgs earned a point in each of their three games over the past weekend, collecting five of a possible six with two wins and an overtime loss. Roanoke currently rides a three-game point streak and with a win over an overtime loss on Friday, it would equal its longest point streak of the season.
BOLSTERED BLUE LINE: Phil Tesoriero was activated of injured reserve on Friday and returns to the lineup after missing the last eight games. Tesoriero was injured on December 23 in Knoxville. He has played in 17 games with two assists this season.
ICY HOT: Knoxville enters the weekend alone in third place in the SPHL with 37 points. The Ice Bears have won a season-best six straight games and have recorded points in each of their last nine.
NEW-FOUND OFFENSE: Rail Yard Dawgs captain Nick Schneider scored for the second straight game on Saturday and now has points in five in a row. Schneider is third on the team in scoring with 19 points (4 G, 15 A) and his four goals are a new professional career high. Through 26 games, the 32-year old is four points shy of his career-high in points. He set it in 2014-15 when he had 23 (2 G, 21 A) in 52 games for Peoria.
QUICK TURNAROUND: The Rail Yard Dawgs play three games in three days for the second straight weekend. After Friday's game in Roanoke, the Dawgs will bus to Alabama to tangle with the Huntsville Havoc. That will be immediately followed by a return trip to the Roanoke Valley for a 3:05 PM Sunday puck drop against Fayetteville.
