Columbus Cottonmouths News Release
PEORIA, IL- The Columbus Cottonmouths Hockey Team of the SPHL have confirmed that the game scheduled for Friday, January 20 at 8:05PM EST in Peoria, IL against the Peoria Rivermen has been postponed.
Head Coach and General Manager, Jerome Bechard, stated that he is "working diligently to recruit a team that is mentally and physically able to play" in Peoria, IL on Saturday, January 21 against the Peoria Rivermen. Former Cottonmouths goalie, Andrew Loewen, is en route to be available in Peoria for tomorrow night's game, but Bechard stated that he "may or may not play."
Goaltender, Brandon Jaeger, and the bus driver are still being treated at a local hospital, but they do not suffer from life-threatening injuries. All of the remaining players and staff were able to return to the hotel last night suffering from mostly just bumps and bruises.
"I am fine and in good spirits. I lost my phone in the crash, so I cannot respond to any messages, but I am doing okay," Jaeger shared in a Facebook post last night. Jaeger does not suffer from a broken leg injury, and he is feeling positive about his recovery.
The Cottonmouths would like to thank all of our fans, the Columbus community, the Peoria Rivermen and all of their fans that have reached out to us, all of the SPHL teams and their fans that have shared support, the Peoria community, and all of the first responders and medical professionals that kept our team in great spirits and treated them with the most professional care. We could not have asked for a better response from everyone and we are very thankful that no one was seriously injured. Please continue to keep the Cottonmouths in your thoughts at this time. We will release any information as soon as it becomes available.
