Raiders Shut Out 3-0 By Pats On Wednesday Night

The Prince Albert Raiders were shutout for the first time this season, losing 3-0 to the Regina Pats on Wednesday night at the Brandt Centre.
The Pats opened the scoring with 9:42 to go in the first. After Connor Bedard's shot was blocked in the slot, Easton Armstrong gathered the rebound and walked in, firing a shot top corner past Tikhon Chaika, as the Pats went up 1-0 midway through the opening frame.
Despite being outshot early on in the contest, the Raiders bounced back in the second half of the first period, finishing the frame outshooting Regina 8-6. However, they entered the second period still trailing 1-0.
Early in the second period, the gloves dropped between Evan Herman and Corbin Vaughn, after Vaughn laid a big hit on Raider forward Carson Latimer. The two laid some shots on each other before Herman eventually took Vaughn to the ice. Both were sent to the box for five minutes each for fighting, however Herman was assessed an extra two minutes for instigating the fight after sticking up for Latimer. The Raiders were able to kill off the ensuing penalty, as the score still read 1-0 for the home side.
In the second, Prince Albert product Tanner Howe extended the Pats' lead to 2-0 with 11:29 left. After Nolan Allan and Connor Bedard were scrambling for the loose puck, it worked its way to the right circle for Howe, who ripped a shot over Chaika's shoulder. Howe's fifth of the year doubled Regina's lead midway through the game.
The Pats made it a 3-0 lead less than three minutes into the third period, as Tye Spencer buried a puck sitting near the goal line. An original chance by Bedard was stopped by Chaika, and Bedard made contact with the Raiders' goaltender, knocking him out of position. Spencer knocked the rebound in for his fourth goal of the season, as no goaltender interference was called on the play, making it a three goal lead for Regina early in the final frame.
From there, the Pats were able to shut down any comeback attempt by the Raiders, with a large part of that coming in thanks to goaltender Drew Sim, who turned aside every shot he faced for his second career shutout.
The Raiders fall to 2-5-2-0 with the loss, and finish the three game road trip with an 0-2-1-0 record. The green and gold crew returns home for their next game on Saturday night, when they welcome the Calgary Hitmen.
