Prince Albert Raiders News Release
Swift Current, SK - The Prince Albert Raiders (22-21-9-2) had their point streak snapped on Friday night in a 5-1 loss to the Swift Current Broncos (38-13-3-1) at the Innovation Credit Union i-Plex.
The Raiders had earned at least a point in nine consecutive games heading into Friday night, compiling a 6-0-3 record over that span.
It didn't take long for Swift Current to get on the board. Curtis Meger's clearing attempt took a strange bunch off the glass and the puck ended up on the stick of Glenn Gawdin, who made no mistake in scoring his 45th goal of the season 22 seconds into the game.
Midway through the frame, the Broncos extended their lead quickly. Gawdin and Giorgio Estephan scored 14 seconds apart to put the home team ahead 3-0. Late in the period, Beck Malenstyn made it a four-goal game.
In the second, Kaden Elder increased the Broncos' lead at the 1:43 mark to put Swift Current up 5-0.
The Raiders got on the board late in the second frame. Justin Nachbaur collected a Sean Montgomery rebound in front of the net and batted it past Stuart Skinner with 6:02 to play in the frame.
It was as close as the Raiders came as the teams skated to a scoreless third period.
Curtis Meger, who got his first start in goal since January 17, made 30 saves in the loss. Skinner stopped 29 Raider shots in the Broncos' win.
It's a quick turnaround for the Raiders as they head to Saskatoon on Saturday night to take on the Blades at SaskTel Centre. Puck drop is set for 7:05 p.m.
The Raiders are back at the Art Hauser Centre on Sunday afternoon for a rematch against the Broncos. Game time is 4 p.m. Tickets are available at raiderhockey.com and the box office starting at 10 a.m. on Sunday morning.
