Prince Albert Raiders News Release

Prince Albert, SK - Overtime has not been kind to the Prince Albert Raiders (3-4-3-0) this season.

On Tuesday, Dawson Holt at the 2:35 mark of the overtime to lift his Vancouver Giants (3-4-1-1) to a 5-4 victory at the Art Hauser Centre.

An offensive outburst greeted the teams in the first period as the Raiders and Giants combined for seven goals in the opening frame. Brayden Watts and Ty Ronning got the Giants out to an early 2-0 lead with goals in the first 2:21 of the game.

The Raiders rallied right away. First, Jordy Stallard beat David Tendeck with a laser of a wrist shot at the 3:45 mark. About a minute later, Sergei Sapego scored his first career WHL goal to level the score at 2-2.

However, just 31 seconds after Sapego's goal, Ronning tallied his second goal of the game to put the Giants up 3-2. That goal ended Raiders goaltender Curtis Meger's night.

In the final two minutes of the first, the Raiders struck again. Parker Kelly buried his sixth of the year to tie the game. Then, with 1.4 seconds left in the frame, Sean Montgomery solved Tendeck to give the Raiders a 4-3 lead after 20 minutes.

The team's tightened up in the second period. Alex Kannok Leipert deflected a shot past Nicholas Sanders at the 8:25 mark of the middle frame in the period's only goal, making it a 4-4 game after two periods.

After a scoreless third period, the Raiders and Giants went chance for chance in the overtime period. The Giants got the last chance though, ending the game on Holt's first of the season.

In relief, Sanders was strong for the Raiders. He made 33 saves, but was saddled with the overtime loss. Tendeck also stopped 33 shots in the win for the Giants.

The Raiders are back in action on Saturday night when the Saskatoon Blades (3-5-0-0) make their first trip of the year to the Art Hauser Centre. Puck drop is 7 p.m. Tickets are available at raiderhockey.com, the Raider Office, or by calling 306-764-GAME.
