
Rai scores twice in 7-3 loss to Everett

Everett - The Everett Silvertips defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 7-3 Saturday night at Comcast Arena Everett.
Everett took a 1-0 lead at 3:13 of the first period on a goal by Shane Harper. Daniel Bartek and Zach Dailey had the assists.
Markus McCrea gave the Silvertips a 2-0 lead at 19:23 of the first. Bartek had the only assist on the goal. Everett (2-1-1-0) outshot Seattle 17-10 in the first period.
Daniel Bartek put Everett in front 3-0 at 8:34 of the second period. Harper and Graham Potuer had the assists.
Shayne Brown scored at 9:44 of the second putting the Silvertips up 4-0. McCrea and Byron Froese assisted on the goal.
The T-Birds pulled goalie Jacob DeSerres after the fourth Everett goal and replaced him with Calvin Pickard. DeSerres made 16 saves on 20 shots and was credited with the loss.
Seattle (0-4-0-0) got on the board at 10:38 of the second. David Richard and Rai took off up ice on a two-on-two. Richard hit Luke Lockhart trailing the play with a pass. Lockhart put a quick wrist shot on goal that Prab Rai re-directed past Everett goalie Shayne Barrie.
Rai scored an unassisted goal at 12:52 of the second to cut the Tips lead to two goals. Rai controlled a loose puck in the neutral zone along the left boards. He came down the wing into the Everett zone. Just inside the left face off circle Rai wired a slap shot past Barrie high on the glove side.
Seattle outshot Everett 12-11 in the second period but the Silvertips led in total shots, 28-22, going into the second intermission.
Devon LeBlanc tipped a Jeremy Boyer shot past Barrie 37 seconds into the third period to cut the Silvertips lead to one goal.
Tyler Maxwell scored a power-play goal at 7:48 of the third to put the Tips back in front by two goals. Kellan Tochkin and Brown had the assists.
Paul Van de Velde scored for Everett at 11:09 of the third to give the Tips a three goal lead. Ellington and Tochkin had the assists.
Potuer added an unassisted empty-net goal at 17:21 of the third for the final margin.
Seattle outshot Everett 14-12 in the third period. Everett finished the game with a 40-36 advantage in shots.
Pickard made 17 saves on 19 shots.
Barrie stopped 33 of 36 shots and got the win.
The T-Birds next game is their home opener scheduled for Saturday, October 4, against the Spokane Chiefs at KeyArena at 7:05 p.m.
