Lethbridge Hurricanes News Release
Lethbridge, AB - Lethbridge Hurricanes Assistant General Manager, Brad Robson, announced this morning the defending Eastern Conference Champions have acquired forward, Brent Henke, from the Edmonton Oil Kings in exchange for a 7th round pick in the 2009 WHL Bantam Draft.
Robson says, "Brent is a bigger forward and should compliment our group by adding some size and power up front to go along with his above average skating ability." The Canes' Assistant GM added, "Brent now gives us three 1990 born forwards and that addresses an area of concern for this year and particularly the future."
Henke is an Edmonton native originally drafted by the Kootenay ICE in 2005 (100th overall). Henke was claimed by the Oil Kings in the 2007 WHL expansion draft and made his major junior debut last season playing 63 games and scoring 2 goals, 6 assists for 8 points to go with 24 penalty minutes.
Brent Henke is expected to meet his new team in Medicine Hat this afternoon and make his Hurricane debut in the second game of the home and home series with the Tigers. Lethbridge took the first game 1-0 in overtime Friday night at the ENMAX Centre.
Additional Notes:
- Forward Cam Braes suffered a concussion during the shutout victory against the Tigers and his status is unknown. The sophomore forward was not scheduled to play tonight in order to attend his grandmother's funeral at St. Albert, AB.
- Forward, Brandon Brossoit, has been reassigned to his minor hockey association in California. Brossoit played in the Hurricanes first two regular season games although it was decided returning home to Los Alamitos, CA for one more season may best serve his long-term development.
- Brent Henke will wear jersey number 28, the same number he wore last season with the Edmonton Oil Kings.
