Rocky Mountain Rage News Release
Broomfield, Colo. - The Central Hockey League announced today that the Rocky Mountain Rage's five-goal, third-period comeback during a 6-5 shootout win against the Tulsa Oilers on Dec. 29 was selected as Week 11's Performance of the Week. Close to 1,000 CHL fans voted in the online poll on the league's website, and the team's impressive effort is now a finalist for the 2007-08 CHL Performance of the Year, which will be announced in April.
Entering the third period against the Oilers, Rocky Mountain trailed, 5-0. Culminating with Colt King's second goal of the frame with only 1:33 left in regulation, the Rage stormed all the way back to tie the game at five before eventually winning in a shootout.
The comeback is the largest in the league this season and one of the all-time best in CHL history. No CHL team has surpassed a five-goal, third-period turnaround such as Rocky Mountain pulled off since the league moved to its current statistics database in 2002-03.
The only verified comeback larger than the Rage's performance on Dec. 29 occurred more than a decade ago. On Jan. 28, 1996, the Wichita Thunder overcame a 7-1 third-period deficit to the Oklahoma City Blazers before losing in a shootout, 8-7.
Rocky Mountain begins its final week of action before the CHL All-Star Break tomorrow when the club hosts the Amarillo Gorillas at Broomfield Event Center at 7:05 p.m. Tickets for the game are on sale now with prices ranging from $18-$43 per seat (parking included). Fans can purchase tickets at Broomfield Event Center's box office or through Ticketmaster by logging-on to www.Ticketmaster.com, calling (303) 830-TIXS, or visiting any Ticketmaster retail outlet.
In addition to the Rage's tilt against the Gorillas tomorrow night, Broomfield Event Center will also host a production crew from the Food Network show Unwrapped.
Unwrapped uncovers behind-the-scenes details on classic American food, from peanut butter and chocolate syrup to french fries and bubblegum. The BEC will be featured in an upcoming episode on arena concessions.
The Rage will host the 2008 CHL All-Star festivities on Tuesday and Wednesday, Jan. 15 and 16, at Broomfield Event Center. The All-Star Banquet, which is open to the public, will be held on the 15th. The banquet features the introduction of the two All-Star Teams plus a performance by Denver resident and 2005 Last Comic Standing winner Josh Blue. The All-Star Game will be played on the 16th, when the Northern and Southern Conferences will square-off in a battle for supremacy between the most talented players in the league.
