Rage Trade Cullaton to Laredo

February 3, 2009 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Rocky Mountain Rage News Release

Broomfield, Colo. - The Rocky Mountain Rage traded player/assistant coach Brent Cullaton to the Laredo Bucks today in exchange for future considerations.

"This is the most difficult decision I've had to make in my seven seasons as a head coach, but I truly believe this will improve our hockey club," said Rage Head Coach and General Manager Tracy Egeland.

"There is no question that Brent Cullaton was a great asset for our team, and there will be times when his skill and play-making ability will be missed. Brent earned the right to go to a positive situation, and with his previous success in Laredo and the strength of the Bucks organization, I think he'll have that. I wish him and his family the best.

"That said," continued Egeland. "When this series of moves that we'll make in the coming days is complete, our team will be in a better position to compete for a playoff spot, and if we qualify, to challenge for a championship. We'll be a stronger unit as a whole and better prepared to meet the physical and mental demands you face this time of year. I ask our fans to hang in there...there's more to come."

Cullaton leaves Rocky Mountain having posted 148 points (36g-112a) in 101 games played. Last season he finished fourth in the CHL with a team-record 92 points (21g-71a). This year he again leads the Rage in points with 56 (15g-41a), ranked eighth in the league.

The 13th-year pro returns to Laredo, where he still has many ties. Cullaton was a member of Bucks teams that won two titles while appearing in three consecutive President's Cup Finals from 2004-06. His family still owns a home in Laredo, and his father, Art, is currently on staff with the Bucks as the club's ice technician.

The Rage continue a seven-game road trip when they travel to face the Wichita Thunder on Friday, Feb. 6. After three games last week in Arizona, the game in Wichita begins the second leg of a stretch of 12 of 13 on the road. The lone game at Broomfield Event Center during this series of road games is a showdown with the Mississippi RiverKings on Sunday, Feb. 15, at 3:05 p.m.

Individual tickets for the tilt against Mississippi are available for as low as $5 for kids 12 and under (with the purchase of at least one adult ticket) and cost just $10 for students with a valid ID. Tickets may be purchased at the BEC Box Office, www.Ticketmaster.com, (303) 830-TIXS, and all Ticketmaster retail outlets.
