Rafters Try to Build on Walk-Off Momentum

June 4, 2015 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Wisconsin Rapids Rafters News Release

Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. - After suffering a heartbreaking loss on Tuesday night, the Rafters won Wednesday night's game with a walk-off single in the bottom of the 13th inning. Now, Wisconsin Rapids will try to build on that momentum as they wrap up their three-game homestand and two-game series with the Chinooks. The Rafters currently sit half-of-a-game out of second place in the South Division with a record of 4-4. Lakeshore is right on Wisconsin Rapid's heels at 4-5.

Mitch McGeein (Eastern Michigan) played the hero twice Wednesday night, as he singled to left, scoring Zack Domingues (Long Beach State) to win the game in the bottom of the 13th. But eight innings earlier, McGeein hit a go-ahead, three-run laser over the left field wall to give the Rafters a 5-3 lead. The Chinooks, however, tried to spoil the big night for McGeein when they rallied for a run in the seventh and two more in the ninth to tie the game and force extras. But the Calgary, Alberta native, couldn't be stopped and came in clutch for the Rafters in extras.

On the bump tonight for Wisconsin Rapids will be Chris Falwell. The sophomore from Cisco College will be making his 2015 Rafters debut against the Chinooks. Falwell made 15 appearances for the Wranglers this spring, striking out 33 batters in 26 innings of work.

First pitch tonight is at 6:35 p.m., with gates opening at 5:35 p.m. It is Frozen Night at Witter Field, presented by Paul Gross Jewelers. All princesses will receive a tiara and there will be an appearance by Princess Elsa and Princess Anna from the movie Frozen. Everyone dressed up will receive a coupon for a free "Frozen" themed ice cream sundae.
