Wisconsin Rapids Rafters News Release

Madison, Wis- Wisconsin Rapids notched their first win of this three game road trip when they defeated the Mallards 3-1 this evening at the Duck Pond. The win puts the Rafters record at 13-14 on the summer. The low scoring affair was highlighted by an outstanding pitching performance from Brian Russell (College of Staten Island). The right hander threw seven stellar innings and allowed one run while striking out four. Brian Bass (Faulkner University) threw two innings as he collected his second save of the summer.

Demetrius Sims (Bethune-Cookman) made the play of the summer so far with a bare-handed over the shoulder catch in the fifth inning. He was removed from the game with an injury but it was another play to add to his already outstanding highlight reel. Ryan Cleveland (Georgia Southern) laced a couple of baseballs in the gap, as he went two for four with two doubles and a run scored. The 2014 Northwoods League batting champion Zack Domingues (Long Beach State) had an RBI single in the second inning and scored a huge insurance run in the ninth inning to help secure the 3-1 victory.
