Kenosha Kingfish News Release
Kenosha, Wis. - Fueled by a four run sixth inning, the La Crosse Loggers took down the Kenosha Kingfish by a final of 9-4 Tuesday night at Simmons Field.
The Kingfish (19-10) jumped out to an early lead after two RBIs by 1B Zach Ratcliff. The first baseman from Ohio State grounded out to drive in Alex Dunlap in the second inning. Ratcliff later hit a towering shot to left field for a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth. Ratcliff led the Kingfish at the plate with his home run and two RBIs. 2B Mitch Gasbarro went 2-5 with an RBI as well.
In the field for the Kingfish, RF Eric Filia made a spectacular leaping catch into the outfield wall, and then fired to first to force the inning ending double play in the fourth inning. Not to be outdone, fellow outfielder Zach Weigel made a great diving catch in the ninth inning to rob the Loggers of a hit. In the end, the great defensive play for the Kingfish was not enough on the night. The Loggers (15-13) scored two in the fifth, four in the sixth, and two in the seventh to break the game open. 1B Jordan Pearce led La Crosse offensively, going 2-3 with two RBIs. LF Will Savage went 2-5 with two RBIs in the game for the Loggers.
The Kingfish had their chances to crawl back into the game. In the bottom of the eighth, the Kingfish loaded the bases with no one out but could not capitalize. The Kingfish loaded the bases again in the ninth, but only managed to plate two runners.
Ryne Blanton started for the Kingfish, throwing five innings of four hit ball, allowing two runs and one walk. Kyle Nelson opposed Blanton on the mound for the Loggers and picked up the win.
