Wisconsin Rapids Rafters News Release
Green Bay, WI - July 7, 2012 - The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters won once again Saturday night at Joannes Stadium, beating Green Bay 5-3. The Rafters didn't score after the third but Augey Bill and Seth Fuller kept the `Frogs bats quiet enough.
Green Bay, for the second straight night, jumped out to the early lead. Scoring two in the first on three hits, the Bullfrogs led 2-0 after the first. Augey Bill (SO, Univ. of Arizona) was masterful the rest of the way. The towering left-hander went six more innings allowing only four hits. In total, Bill went seven innings, allowing just two runs, seven hits, and two walks.
The Rafters quickly picked up their starter. After blowing a lead in his first start, the Rafters took a lead for Bill in the early going Saturday. Brandon Hohl (JR, Univ. of Illinois) clubbed his fifth homer and Colin Bray (FR, Univ. of South Alabama) knocked in his second run to tie it in the second at 2-2. In the third, after the Rafters loaded the bases with one out, Josh Cyr (JR, Univ. of North Alabama) roped a ball to the opposite field, knocking in three with a two-out double to give the Rafters a 5-2 lead.
The Rafters offense, in their third try against him, exploded on Ben Graff. After two outings in which Graff combined to give up just one earned run, the lefty allowed five runs in five innings on eight hits and multiple hard-hit outs.
Five baserunners reached against Seth Fuller (FR, Black Hawk College) on a hit, two hit batsmen, and two errors in the eighth and ninth innings. It wasn't enough for Green Bay, however, who scored just one-run off of the Rafters' closer in his two innings.
Fuller, who is 5-1 on the year, picked up his 5th save, putting him only two behind division-leader Jonathan Van Eaton for La Crosse. Bill (1-0) picked up the win, and Graff (3-3) took the loss.
The Rafters are off Sunday and play a doubleheader on Monday against the Eau Claire Express. The two teams will finish a rain-suspended game from June 20th at 5:35 and play a second, a seven-inning game, at Witter Field Monday evening.
