Rafters Take on Woodchucks

Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. - The Rafters split their first series against the Madison Mallards making them 1-1 on the season. The Rafters stand tied for third in South Division only behind 2-0 Rockford Rivets and 1-0 Kenosha Kingfish (due to a cancelled game).

Tonight, The Rafters take on the Wisconsin Woodchucks (1-1) at Athletic Park in Wausau, Wisconsin. The Woodchucks also sealed their first win last night and split their respective series against the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders. Last season, the Wisconsin Woodchucks took four of the 20 regular season losses from the Rafters.

Brett Fehr's (SIU-Edwardsville) debut performance for the cranberry and gold has gained him some attention. Fehr is batting a .667 going 2-3 last night with 1 run, a stolen base and a walk. Rafters pitching had an impressive showing last night as well. Trayson Kubo (Stephen F. Austin) hurled his first start for the Rafters, he gave up only two hits, allowed no runs to be scored and struck out six in 5.0 innings. Johnathan Hernandez (Chapman University) came in as relief and pitched for two innings, he gave up three hits and one run. Mason McReaken (SIU- Edwardsville) earned his first save of the 2018 season last night when he closed the eighth and ninth innings. He stuck out two and allowed only three hits.

The Rafters need to keep an eye on Wausau Woodchuck Payton Nelson. Nelson, who put up impressive numbers last night going 2-3 with 2 RBI's to help the Woodchucks to their 3-0 win over Fond Du Lac.

Taking the mound tonight for the Rafters is Cole Waites (West Alabama). This will be Waites' Rafters debut. In his collegiate career, Waites recorded a 3.75 ERA after 29 game appearances. He has a 9-6 record and has struck out 164 batters.

Pitching tonight for the Woodchucks is Matt Walker. The lefty finished his sophomore season with the Illinois State University Redbirds and posted a 5-2 record and 5.49 ERA.

Tonight's first pitch is slated for 6:35pm. The weather looks to be 77 degrees and partially cloudy at Athletic Park.

The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters host their home-opener tomorrow, June 1 against the Wisconsin Woodchucks.
