Former Honker and Logger Tim Peterson Debuts with the Mets

Rochester, Minn. - Former Rochester Honker and La Crosse Logger Tim Peterson, made his Major League debut for the New York Mets on Wednesday, May 30, 2018. Peterson is the 194th former Northwoods League player to reach the Major League level.
Peterson, who played collegiately at the University of Kentucky, played for the Rochester Honkers and the La Crosse Loggers in 2011. He was drafted by the New York Mets in the 20th round of the 2012 MLB Draft.
Peterson appeared in two games for the Loggers in 2011, starting both. He went 0-2 with a 5.68 ERA in 12.2 innings pitched. With the Honkers he appeared in three games in relief and was 0-1 with a 5.63 ERA.
Peterson started his Minor League career in 2012 with the Brooklyn Cyclones of the Short-Season A New York-Penn League. Over 15 games he was 1-1 with a 6.26 ERA and struck out 23 batters in 23 innings pitched.
Peterson split the 2013 season between two clubs. He began the year with the Cyclones and was promoted after nine games to the Savannah Sand Gnats of the Lo-A South Atlantic League. For the season he appeared in 27 games and was 1-0 with a 3.07 ERA and had 50 strikeouts in 44 innings.
For the 2014 season Peterson split time between three teams. He began the year with Savannah and then was promoted after 16 games to the St. Lucie Mets of the Hi-A Florida State League. After 13 appearances in St. Lucie he would finish the season with one appearance with the Binghamton Mets of the AA Eastern League. His record for the season was 5-2 and he had a 4.28 ERA in 54.2 innings pitched. He also struck out 70 batters while walking only 17.
Peterson spent the entire 2015 season back in Savannah. He pitched in 16 games in relief and was 1-0 with a 1.69 ERA. He also struck out 22 batters in 21.1 innings and had two saves.
In 2016 Peterson began the year with St. Lucie and then was promoted after 12 games back to Binghamton. Between the two clubs he went 4-1 with a 3.03 ERA and had a career-high 85 strikeouts in 62.1 innings pitched.
The 2017 season saw Peterson with two teams again as he began the year in Binghamton and then moved up to the Las Vegas 51s to end the season after appearing in 41 games in Binghamton. For the year he went 5-3 with a 1.86 ERA and struck out 55 batters while walking only 12 in 58 innings of work.
Prior to being called up by the Mets, Peterson had appeared in 22 games in Las Vegas and was 0-1 with a 3.58 ERA. He had 40 strikeouts in 27.2 innings pitched.
In his Major League debut against the Atlanta Braves, Peterson entered the game in the bottom of the sixth inning in relief of Jason Vargas. He would pitch two innings and allow one run on one hit while walking one.
