Madison Mallards News Release

The Madison Mallards hit the road for the first time in 2018 on Thursday, traveling to Green Bay to take on the Bullfrogs at 7:05 PM at Joannes Stadium. After dropping the second half of their two-game set with the Rafters, the Mallards strive to get back into the win column tonight. Madison is slated to play a pair against the Bullfrogs before heading to Fond du Lac for a game against the Dock Spiders on Saturday. The Ducks will be back home on Sunday, June 3 for another contest with Fond du Lac.

Probable Pitchers

Brian Martinez, a freshman lefty from Connors State, will be making his first start as a Mallard tonight in Green Bay. Martinez started six games this spring and posted a 4-0 record while pitching 39.0 innings and striking out 37 and only walking nine. Martinez will look to match the starting outings of Dalton Morrow (Southwest Baptist) and Dalton Wiggins (Marrieta) who both worked 5.0-plus innings and allowed zero earned runs in their outings.

Righty Mason Schwellenbach is slated to make his first start for the Bullfrogs tonight. The sophomore from Saginaw Valley started 12 games this spring and held a 3-7 record. Overall, he posted a 4.84 ERA through 57.2 innings pitched.

Players to Watch

After just two games, centerfielder Jayse McLean (NDSU) leads the Mallards in hitting, holding a .429 average. McLean has collected three hits including a double and a homerun on opening night when he totaled five RBI, leading the Mallards to a 10-2 win.

Catcher Hunter Hisky (Southwest Baptist) has tallied three hits thus far, one of which was a double. The redshirt junior has also drawn a walk and scored a pair of runs.
