Wisconsin Rapids Rafters News Release

Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. - The Rafters (22-22, 7-5) won their seventh game over the last nine with an 8-5 victory over the Madison Mallards (28-21, 8-6) on Tuesday night. Wisconsin Rapids scored in six straight innings, from the second through the seventh, to keep the Mallards at an arm's length for the majority of the game. Jay Peters (UW-Milwaukee) picked up the win for the Rafters, while Dalton D'Spain (Texas A&M-Corpus Christi) took the loss for the Mallards.

Madison got on the board first with a pair of runs in the top of the second, but Wisconsin Rapids responded with a couple runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game at 2-2. The Rafters then scored five unanswered runs over the next four innings to get comfortably ahead, 7-2.

Mitchell McGeein (Eastern Michigan) and Ryan Cleveland (Georgia Southern) clubbed solo home runs for the Rafters, with Cleveland leading the way at the plate by going 3-for-4. Zack Domingues (Long Beach State), Beau Jordan (LSU), Michael McCann (Seattle), and McGeein had two hits apiece for Wisconsin Rapids, tallying 15 hits as a team on the night.

Peters was again superb on the mound for the Rafters. The right-handed pitcher from Randolph, Wisconsin threw six innings, surrendering two runs, both unearned. Peters allowed five hits while striking out six and walking one, retiring 13 of the last 15 Mallards hitters he saw. The win improves his record to 2-1 and lowers his season ERA to 1.58.

The Rafters will again host the Mallards on Wednesday, July 15, at Historic Witter Field. First pitch will be at 7:05 p.m., with gates opening at 6:05. It's Quality Feed and Seed Bark in the Park Night. Fans can bring their canine companions to the game and receive a Tug Buster toy giveaway, courtesy of Quality Feed and Seed.
