Wisconsin Rapids Rafters News Release

Wisconsin Rapids, WI - July 11, 2012 - It was close once again, but the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters lost for the second straight night and third time in four games, falling to the La Crosse Loggers 10-8. The Rafters entertained the 1,153 to a close finish but could not complete the comeback at Witter Field.

Bo Henning (SO, Sacramento City College) left after just 3.2 innings with a 7-3 deficit. He gave up a fourth inning grand slam to Bobby Juan. All seven runs allowed, however, were unearned: the result of Rafters' errors in the three-run first and four-run fourth.

Wisconsin Rapids outhit the Loggers 15 to 11, getting three hits from Alex Bacon (SO, Univ. of North Florida) once again, his third straight three-hit performance, and Sean Godfrey (SO, Ball St. Univ). Wisconsin Rapids also collected multiple base hits from three other players.

The Rafters pulled within one, scoring one in the fifth, two in the sixth, and one in the eighth to make it 8-7 going to the ninth, but La Crosse picked up big insurance runs in the ninth. Jimmy Bosco, who reached base all five times for the Loggers, and Kevin Kramer both knocked in a run to make it 10-7.

The Rafters rallied three hits off of closer Jonanthan Van Eaton to make it 10-8 in the bottom half of the ninth. Aaron Jones' double (JR, Winston Salem State) scored the run, and he represented the tying run at second base. With two on and two outs, Aaron Gretz (FR, Ohio State Univ.) bounced out to third to end it.

The last three losses for the Rafters have all come with the tying and/or winning run on the bases. Bo Henning took the loss (3-3 overall, 0-2 as a Rafter), while Jake Stassi in his worst outing of the year, picked up his second victory (2-0).

The Rafters (3-4, 19-22 overall) take on La Crosse (3-3, 29-12 overall) once again Wednesday for Cour Financial Night, featuring the first ever Rafters Rally Towel. Cole Webb (SO, Valparaiso Univ.) takes the mound for the Rafters.
