Honkers Blast MoonDogs 14-5

(Rochester, MN) - The Rochester Honkers came out swinging the lumber on Wednesday night with a 14-5 victory over the Mankato MoonDogs in front of 903 Mayo Field fans. The series is now tied 1-1.

The Honkers put on an offensive showcase with twelve hits, three of which left the park.

With a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second, right fielder Jared Allen (Tennessee) belted a solo homerun to left field. Allen would add another solo shot in the bottom of the fourth. Three of Allen's four total homeruns have come in the first two games of this MoonDogs series.

The Honkers added four runs in the sixth, highlighted by a bases-clearing double from left fielder Justin Parr (Illinois). Parr went 2 for 3 with two runs and three RBIs.

Carl O'Neal (St. Mary's TX) worked 6.0 innings and gave up four earned runs on seven hits and three walks. O'Neal also struck out four batters to earn his first victory of the 2012 Northwoods League season. His record is now 1-1.

Honkers first baseman Cole Lankford (Texas A&M) had a great night at the plate finishing 4 for 5 with four runs scored. Dakota Smith (Kansas) added a two-run homerun of his own in the seventh inning. Smith was 1 for 2 on the night with three runs scored of his own.

Reid Roper (Illinois) pitched the final 3.0 innings to pick up his first save of the season.

The Honkers (3-4, 18-24) and MoonDogs (5-2, 33-9) will go back to Mankato tomorrow, July 12th, for the finale of the three-game series. Lefty DJ Snelten (Minnesota) will get the start for Rochester against Mankato right hander Seth Webster (Nicholls State). Snelten carries an 0-2 record in six starts, but has a respectable 3.42 ERA. Webster is 3-0 in seven starts with a high 6.00 ERA.

The Honkers are back home on Friday, July 13th to start a two-game series with the St. Cloud Rox. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM. Stay after the game for a Fireworks Extravaganza.
