
Radmanovich's walk off homer gives Patriots 3-2 win over Bears

Bridgewater, NJ - Somerset Patriots right fielder Ryan Radmanovich led off the bottom of the ninth inning with a home run to defeat the Newark Bears 3-2 before 6,268 fans at Commerce Bank Ballpark on Thursday evening.
With the game tied at 2-2 in the ninth, Radmanovich hit his league leading 22nd home run to give Somerset the win.
The Patriots took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. Shortstop Nick Ortiz singled and first baseman Jim Burt and catcher Jim Buckley drew walks to load the bases. Designated hitter Kevin Nicholson then hit a two-run single to plate Ortiz and Burt.
The Bears cut the lead in half with a run in the top of the sixth inning. First baseman Alexis Hernandez doubled and scored on an RBI single by designated hitter Will Pennyfeather to make the score 2-1.
Newark tied the game with a run in the top of the eighth inning. Second baseman Matt Brunson walked and stole second. Shortstop Liu Rodriguez and Hernandez both walked to load the bases. Brunson then scored on a sacrifice fly by third baseman Victor Rodriguez.
Patriots reliever David Elder (1-1) picked up the win, pitching a scoreless ninth inning with two strikeouts. Bears reliever Jeremy Hill (5-4) suffered the loss, allowing an earned run on two hits in an inning pitched.
The 2006 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home on Friday evening with a 7:05 pm game against the Atlantic City Surf. Friday's game includes Back To School Packs for the first 1,500 kids courtesy of Shanahan's Stationary.
