Reading Fightin Phils News Release

The R-Phils (15-24) return home for a seven-game homestand, and open up a three-game series with the Richmond Flying Squirrels (23-17) tonight at 7:05 p.m.

Taking the hill for the R-Phils in the opener will be RHP Vance Worley (2-2, 4.33), who has been one of the most consistent R-Phils pitchers in the month of May, posting a 1-0 record with a 3.52 ERA. The righty struggled a bit during the opening month of 2010, going 1-2 with a 5.23 ERA. However, two of his finer starts this season have come against the Flying Squirrels. On April 18th, Worley went five and a third innings, giving up just two earned runs while scattering six hits. He was truly dominant on April 24th at home against Richmond, as he hurled six innings of one-run baseball, fanning eight batters.

Richmond will counter with RHP Mike MacDonald (1-2, 2.48), who will face the R-Phils for the third time this season already. The Camden, Maine native has allowed three earned runs or less in six of his seven starts, and has struck out 28 batters to just nine walks. MacDonald has allowed only three homeruns this year, all coming off the bats of the Reading Phillies. The R-Phils roughed him up on April 18th for seven hits and four runs in just five innings.
