New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Bowie, MD- Shawn Bowman extended his hitting streak to seven games and his on-base streak to 15 games with a fourth-inning solo home run, but the New Hampshire Fisher Cats fell to the Bowie Baysox, 5-1, in the opener of a three-game series at Prince George's Stadium on Friday night.
Bowman (1-for-4, HR) broke up a scoreless tie with a two-out solo home run to left, his second, off Bowie starter Zach Britton for a 1-0 Fisher Cats' lead in the fourth. Adam Loewen (1-for-4) and Manny Mayorson (1-for-4) followed with back-to-back singles, but those would be the last hits of the night for New Hampshire (25-15), which managed only five hits one day after producing a season-best 20 hits.
Britton (3-3) earned the victory after yielding one run on five hits over six innings, with four strikeouts and one walk.
Eddie Gamboa and James Hoey combined for three hitless innings of relief for Bowie (20-21).
The Baysox tied the game, 1-1, in the bottom of the fourth on a two-out infield single by Matt Angle (2-for-4, 3 RBI, 2B, BB) that plated Robbie Widlansky (3-for-4, 2 2B, 2 R), who led off the stanza with a double off starter and losing pitcher Kyle Drabek.
Bowie took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth on a two-run homer by Joel Guzman (2-for-4, HR), his 9th, over the right-center field wall.
That lead ballooned to 5-1 in the sixth on Angle's two-run double off Drabek (5-4), who yielded season highs of five runs on 10 hits in 5.2 innings. The right-hander walked three and notched three strikeouts, increasing his league-leading total to 48.
The Fisher Cats continue their series against the Baysox on Saturday night at 6:35pm at Prince George's Stadium. New Hampshire right-hander Randy Boone (1-2, 2.57) gets the start against Bowie righty Steve Johnson (1-2, 3.35). Fisher Cats Pre-Game begins at 6:15pm on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network with Mike Murphy.
