New Britain Rock Cats News Release

NEW BRITAIN, CT - New Britain pounded out 15 hits and starter David Bromberg struck out nine as the Rock Cats hammered Binghamton, 14-2 in front of a sellout crowd of 6,989 at New Britain Stadium. It was the third-straight win for the Rock Cats and just the second win of the season at home.

Catcher Allan de San Miguel led the Rock Cats' offensive charge with a game-high four hits and four RBI on the night.

The Rock Cats battered around Bradley Holt, knocking the Binghamton starter out of the game after just 2 2/3 innings. Holt (0-4) surrendered seven runs on eight hits and four walks.

The Rock Cats broke out their bats in the bottom of the second. With on out, Yangervis Solarte laced a line drive single into left field. Steve Singleton followed with a base hit to center before de San Miguel lined a double into left to knock in Solarte for the first run of the game. Singleton crossed the plate on a groundout by Chris Cates. Ben Revere drew a walk to put runners on the corners before Brandon Roberts, who recently returned to the Rock Cats from the Ft. Myers Miracle, lined a single into left to plate de San Miguel.

The offensive onslaught continued in the third inning with RBI singles by Singleton and de San Miguel. Cates singled before Revere launched a shot off the left field wall that just missed leaving the stadium to knock in two more runs.

Roy Merritt didn't fare much better out of the bullpen as the Rock Cats jumped on the relief pitcher for five hits and six runs in 1 1/3 innings.

In the fourth, de San Miguel delivered a bases loaded single to right that knocked in Erik Lis and Solarte. Singleton scored on Cates' RBI ground ball force out. The ‘Cats loaded up the bases again when Revere reached on a walk and Roberts hit an infield single. That set the stage for Rene Tosoni's bases clearing double to center to round out the six-run inning and blow open the game.

Bromberg (2-2) continued to struggle with control - walking four batters on the night - but he limited the B-Mets to two runs on six hits through 6 2/3 innings. He got all the offensive support he needed in the early portion of the game.

Binghamton finally got on the board in the sixth when Nick Evans (3-for-4) led off with a solo shot over the left field wall.

Chris Province added 2 1/3 scoreless innings in relief for the Rock Cats.
