R-Phils Beat Senators for First Time in 2010

Quintin Berry's solo home run in the fourth inning broke a 3-3 tie, and the Reading Phillies held on for a 4-3 road victory over the Harrisburg Senators on Saturday evening at Metro Bank Park. It was the first loss for the Senators this season against the R-Phils, in eleven games between the teams.

The Senators (35-40) put two men on base in the ninth inning, as Ofilio Castro singled and Michael Martinez walked, but Reading reliever Michael Schwimer struck out Danny Espinosa to end the ballgame.

Reading (35-38) took a 3-0 lead in the first inning, getting RBI from Matt Rizzoti, Michael Spidale, and Tuffy Gosewisch. Rizzotti doubled home Ozzie Chavez, who had singled with one out, and Spidale drove in Neil Sellers with a groundout. Sellers had reached base on a walk. Gosewisch then brought Rizzotti home with a two-out single.

In the third inning, the Senators struck back, scoring three runs on four two-out hits. Espinosa and Edgardo Baez singled to start the rally, and then Jesus Valdez doubled to score Espinosa. Chris Marrero followed with a bases-clearing, two-run single to tie the game.

Yohan Flande (5-5) allowed three runs in six innings as the Reading starter and got the win, while Andrew Kown (2-3) gave up four in his six innings, and took the loss. Schwimer faced just one batter, but picked up his eighth save.

The three-game series between the R-Phils and the Senators completes on Sunday afternoon at Metro Bank Park, with the first pitch scheduled for 2 PM. Left-hander Aaron Thompson (3-9, 6.10) is scheduled to go for the Sens, against RHP Drew Naylor (6-6, 4.15) of Reading.
