TONIGHT: The Richmond Flying Squirrels and Erie SeaWovles will meet in game two of a three-game series...The Flying Squirrels jumped out to an early 6-0 and survived a five-run, Erie seventh to hang on to a 6-5 series-opening win on Friday night at Jerry Uht Park.

TONIGHT'S STARTERS: Left-hander Clayton Tanner gets the start in game two of the series for the Flying Squirrels...Suffered the loss in his last start against Altoona 6/20...Allowed five runs, one earned, on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings...Struck out two batters and walked five...Gave up four unearned runs in the sixth inning...Three runs scored on a sun-aided triple to center field from Alex Presley...Recorded 11 ground outs, including three double plays, and two fly outs...Threw 98 pitches, 56 strikes...Five walks matched a career high and also matched a season high for a Richmond pitcher...Walked more batters than he struck out for the seventh time in 13 starts...Went six innings or more for the fourth consecutive start...Had previously gone six innings or more just once in his first nine outings...Has allowed 14 runs, 10 earned, on 28 hits over 31 1/3 innings in his last five starts since coming off of the DL 5/30 (2.87 ERA)...Had allowed 10 runs, nine earned, on 13 hits in 5 2/3 in his previous two outings before landing on the DL (14.30 ERA)...Left-handed batters are hitting just .224 against him (11-for-49).

Left-hander Charles Furbush gets the nod in game two of the series for the SeaWovles...Making his Double-A debut...Was 4-5 with a 3.39 ERA in 13 starts with Advanced-A Lakeland prior to his promotion...Struck out 109 batters and walked 14 in 77 innings of work...Tied with Mike Minor (Double-A Mississippi) for the minor league lead in strikeouts...Struck out 10-plus batters in four outings including a season-high 13 strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings 5/10 against Port Charlotte...Lost each of his final two starts with the Flying Tigers giving up 11 runs, nine earned, on 18 hits in 8 1/3 innings (9.72 ERA)...Had recorded eight straight quality starts 4/29-6/5...Was selected as a Florida State League Mid-Season All-Star but did not participate...Spent all of 2009 with Advanced-A Lakeland and went 6-7 with a 3.96 ERA in 24 games, 23 starts...Struck out 93 batters and walked 32 in 111 1/3 innings...Missed all of 2008 with a left elbow sprain...Made pro debut in 2007 and went 6-1 with a 2.34 ERA in 12 appearances combined with Rookie GCL Tigers and Low-A West Michigan...Selected in the fourth round of the 2007 First-Year Player Draft...Attended LSU.

STANDING "O": Richmond's 12 hits in last night's game were the most since the club collected a dozen hits in a 7-2 win at Reading 6/14 (10 games)...The Flying Squirrels have scored 18 runs over the first four games of their current six-game road trip and of the 18 runs scored, 12 have come in three separate four-run innings.

PEN-NY SAVERS: Flying Squirrels starters have gone six innings or more in each of the last eight contests...The longest streak of six innings or more from the starting pitchers had been three games 6/8-6/10...Over the last eight games, Flying Squirrels' starters have allowed 21 runs, 16 earned, on 52 hits in 52 innings while striking 29 and walking 14 (2.77 ERA)...Starters are just 2-4 over the last eight games.

GETTING SERIE-OUS: Richmond is 1-9-2 over its last 12 series from 5/13-6/24...The lone series win for the Flying Squirrels over that stretch came against New Britain 6/8-6/10 when the club took two of three games...Prior to the skid, Richmond had gone 6-1-1 over its previous eight series spanning from 4/15-5/2.

CLAY-MATION: Outfielder Clay Timpner is hitting .385 (10-for-26) over his last seven games with three doubles, a homer, three RBI and two runs scored...He has also walked twice over that span and has struck out just once...Over his previous 12 games, Timpner was 3-for-35 at the plate (.086) with a double, three RBI, and three runs scored...He struck out four times and walked four times...The 27-year-old is tied with Portland's Ray Chang for seventh in the Eastern League with a .303 batting average.

THOMAS THE TRAIN: Outfielder Thomas Neal collected his team-leading 21st multi-hit game with a 2-for-5 performance last night...The 22-year-old also collected a pair of RBI and leads the team with 35...It was his seventh multi-RBI game, tied with Conor Gillaspie for the lead on the club...Neal is tied for sixth in the Eastern League with 75 hits...He was just 1-for-13 over his previous five games after sitting out the series-opener against Altoona 6/18.

HITTER BY DESIGNATION: The Flying Squirrels are hitting .253 (269-for-1062) with the designated hitter in the line up...The club is batting .239 (328-for-1374) with the pitcher batting...Richmond DHs are batting just .197 (23-for-117) on the season; however, the DHs are just 3-for-61 over the last 17 games against American League affiliates (since 5/18)...The Flying Squirrel DHs were hitting .357 (20-for-56) over their first 16 games...Richmond pitchers are hitting just .130 (12-for-92) at the plate with 52 strikeouts...The Flying Squirrels are 19-14 against American League affiliates and will face an AL affiliate over the next nine games counting today.

BEHIND THE CURVE: The Flying Squirrels were 22-13 and had a 1 1/2 game lead in the Western Division through the first 35 games; however, the club is 12-27 (.308) over its last 39 games...No other team has a lower winning percentage since 5/14...Richmond has lost 16 games in the standings since 5/14 and is 14 1/2 games out of first...Erie is 12-26 (.316) since 5/14.

DOUBLETREE DOWNTOWN DOUBLE PLAYS: The Richmond Flying Squirrels have turned 98 double plays in 74 games including six on 5/7 in Harrisburg...The club leads the Eastern League in double plays turned and has not gone more than two games without turning a double play.

CFS STAT OF THE NIGHT: Right-hander David Mixon has allowed two runs or fewer in 12 of his 15 starts this season...He threw first-pitch strikes to 22 of the 28 batters he faced in last night's win over Erie.
