
Phelps Shuts Down Fisher Cats

Trenton Thunder News Release
Trenton, NJ- David Phelps hurled six shutout innings as the Thunder (45-28) blanked the Fisher Cats (45-30) 2-0 on Saturday night from Waterfront Park. Justin Snyder and Matt Cusick provided the offense as Trenton was held to four hits in the win. The victory moves the Thunder back to a full game in first place over New Hampshire in the EL Eastern Division.
Trenton jumped out in the first inning as they sent seven men to the plate against RHP B.J. LaMura. Matt Cusick drove in Daniel Brewer on a single to make it a 1-0 lead. In the fourth inning off LaMura, Cusick led off with a walk and later came around to score on a two-out single from Justin Snyder to put Trenton ahead 2-0 at the end of four innings.
LaMura (1-2) went four innings for New Hampshire and allowed two runs on two hits with five walks in the loss. Vince Bongiovanni and RHP Alan Farina held Trenton scoreless over the final four innings of relief.
RHP David Phelps (6-0) went six innings and allowed six hits with seven strikeouts in the win. Phelps pitched with runners on base in every inning but was still able to blank the Fisher Cats on the night. Ryan Pope tossed a scoreless 7th and 8th and Grant Duff picked up his eighth save, facing the minimum in the ninth inning.
Trenton and New Hampshire close out their series on Sunday afternoon at 1:05 PM. RHP Lance Pendleton makes the start for the Thunder, while New Hampshire goes with RHP Adrian Martin.
