Quinn, Cutters scramble for 2-1 win

Williamsport Crosscutters News Release
The Cutters were outhit by Jamestown and confused by Jammers starter Help Reyes. But the offense did enough as the defense and bullpen locked down a 2-1 win Tuesday night.
The win assures a season-series win over Jamestown, as Williamsport has taken six of nine against the Jammers this season.
Roman Quinn went 2-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI-triple on a night where the Crosscutters stranded just two runners on base.
Every Jamestown reached base, but the Jammers hit just 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position.
Starters Kevin Brady and Helpi Reyes dueled. Brady struck out six in four scoreless innings, while Reyes retired 15 of the first 16 batters faced, went six innings and allowed just two runs.
The game was scoreless until the sixth inning. That's when Avery Romero scored on a Juancito Martinez fielder's choice to give Jamestown a 1-0 lead.
But Williamsport bounced right back in the bottom of the inning. After Logan Moore reached on an error and advanced to second, Quinn hit a screeching line-drive triple off of the wall in right field to tie the game. With the infield drawn in, Kyle Hoppy then hit a blooper into shallow center field to give the Cutters the lead.
From there, relievers Steven Inch and Geoff Broussard were benefactors of stellar defensive play. Mitch Walding made an acrobatic diving catch in foul ground on a seventh inning pop-up, before Quinn danced out of the way of a sliding baserunner to turn a double-play in the ninth
Broussard notched his sixth save as the Cutters improve to 27-41 on the year, 14-12 in August, and 6-3 against the Jammers.
The Cutters can go for the sweep and pull within two games of the Jammers in the division Wednesday night. First pitch against the Jamestown Jammers is at 7:05. Every Cutters game can be heard on ESPN Radio 104.1 FM, ESPN 1050 AM, or online at crosscutters.com.
