-SPIKES LOOK TO RIGHT THE SHIP AGAINST AUBURN: After suffering a tough loss last night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, the State College Spikes face the Pinckney Division-leading Auburn Doubledays in the second game of a three-game series at home tonight. Auburn currently holds a 2.5-game lead on Batavia (and an 8.5-game lead on the Spikes) in the division. State College is 2-6 against Auburn this year, and 0-3 against the Doubledays at home so far this season.

-LAST GAME: The Spikes and Auburn Doubledays each battled through drizzling rain on Monday night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, and despite Jesus Vasquez keying another State College run, the Doubledays' seven-run first inning carried them past the Spikes in a 12-1 decision. Spikes starter Jason Creasy was knocked out of the box after 2/3 of an inning, and 8 of the 9 Doubledays starters scored at least one run. Vasquez doubled and scored the Spikes' lone run.

-SPIKES SEND RODRIGUEZ BACK TO THE HILL TONIGHT: Left-hander Joely Rodriguez takes the mound tonight for his 13th start of the year. Rodriguez has faced the Doubledays twice this year, allowing a total of six runs and 13 hits while striking out ten over nine innings. Last time out, the Dominican southpaw took the loss at Auburn, yielding three of those runs over five innings. Rodriguez's ERA is the eighth-best mark among all Pirates farmhands this season.

-AUBURN LOOKS TO LEE FOR QUALITY START: Left-hander Nick Lee, who faced the Spikes in his last outing, is slated to start for the Doubledays tonight. Lee hurled six shutout innings for Auburn at Falcon Park last time out, but did not get a decision as the Spikes came from behind to win. Lee has twice gone six shutout innings on the bump this year, including once in his only win of the year against Aberdeen on July 13. Lee was the Nationals' 18th round draft choice in 2011.

-THE LONG AND THE SHORT OF IT: Four nights after playing the shortest nine-inning pro game in Medlar Field at Lubrano Park history at just 1 hour, 49 minutes, the Spikes once again take on the team against whom they have played their two longest games of the year. On August 16, State College and Auburn took 3 hours, 18 minutes to finish a 10-8 Doubledays win. Then, on August 21, the Spikes downed Auburn in 12 innings, 5-4, in a 3-hour, 41-minute affair.

-SPIKE MARKS: Tyler Gaffney's five triples are tied for third in the NYPL...Tom Harlan's six losses are tied for third in the league...Samuel Gonzalez is tied for the NYPL lead with 5 sacrifice flies...State College pitchers have allowed just 17 home runs, least in the NYPL...Clay Holmes is fifth in the NYPL in ERA (1.99) and leads the league in opponents' batting average (.161)
