Lake Monsters Earn Split with 9-0 Win

BURLINGTON, VT-The Vermont Lake Monsters (28-40) scored nine runs on 11 hits to earn a 9-0 win over the Connecticut Tigers (30-37) at Centennial Field in the finale of a two-game series between the two clubs.

LHP Josh Turley pitched three and two-thirds scoreless innings for the Tigers.

Vermont scored two runs in the first inning against Connecticut RHP Montreal Robertson. LF Austin Booker (2-3) singled and was forced out at second base when CF Brett Vertigan (1-4) reached on a fielder's choice. 2B Chris Bostick (1-3) singled Vertigan to second base and RF John Wooten (1-4) singled home Vertigan for a 1-0 lead. C Bruce Maxwell (0-4) reached on a fielder's choice and Bostick scored from third base for a 2-0 lead.

1B Miguel Marte (2-4) hit a two-run home run over the center field wall in the second inning to increase the lead to 4-0.

The Lake Monsters scored four runs in the third inning to earn an 8-0 lead.

DH Reynaldo Mateo (1-3) smacked a solo home run over the left field wall in the eighth inning for a 9-0 lead.

The Tigers start a two-game series with the Tri-City ValleyCats on Wednesday night at Dodd Stadium at 7:05 p.m. It's the first of a five-game home stand. The Tigers host the final "Grand Slam Family Four Pack Wednesday" with four reserved seats, four hot dogs, four sodas and a box of popcorn all for 40 dollars. The Connecticut Tigers are the Class-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers and play in the New York-Penn League.
