Corpus Christi IceRays News Release
Corpus Christi Rayz forward Justin Quenneville and defenseman Geno Parrish have both been nominated as Central Hockey League regular season award finalists. Quenneville who leads the Rayz in scoring was named one of six finalists for the Most Valuable Player Award. Parrish, who has averaged nearly a point a game from the blue line has been named one of six finalists for the Most Outstanding Defenseman Award. Quenneville and Parrish have helped lead the Rayz back to the post-season for the first time since 2001. Corpus Christi Playoff tickets are on sale now and packages start at just $72. For more information, please call the Rayz at (361) 814-PUCK.
Quenneville was a late off-season acquisition and has turned into one of the top newcomers to the CHL this season. In just his third season, Quenneville has set career highs with 29 goals, 41 assists and 70 points. Quenneville's 70 points rank him fifth in the league and tied for second in the Southern Conference. Earlier this season, he was named as a starter for the Southern Conference All-Star Team in the 2007 CHL All-Star Game. Quenneville had points in 16 of his first 18 games with the Rayz and has paced Corpus Christi for much of the first season. The five other MVP finalists are Jeff Christian and Chris Richards from the Youngstown Steelhounds, Brent Kelly for the Arizona Sundogs, John DeCaro from the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs and Riley Nelson from the Colorado Eagles.
Parrish also is in his first year and has been terrific on the Rayz blue line. The veteran defenseman has averaged just under a point per game this season. Despite the fact that Parrish missed 16 games this season due to injury, he still ranks tenth in overall scoring from defensemen and sixth in the Southern Conference. Parrish has 11 goals and 43 points in 45 games played this season. The five finalists joining Parrish are Mike Burgoyne of the Oklahoma City Blazers, Derek Landmesser of the Memphis RiverKings, Aaron MacInnis of the New Mexico Scorpions, Adam Rivet of the Laredo Bucks and Brad Williamson of the Colorado Eagles. Balloting will take place among CHL Head Coaches, team Communications Departments and selected media members to determine the recipients of the CHL awards.
