Rocky Mountain Rage News Release

Broomfield, Colo. - Sporting green St. Patrick's Day jerseys, the Rocky Mountain Rage hockey team took on the Odessa Jackalopes for the first and only time this season. Rocky Mountain led 1-0 after two periods, but could not survive Odessa's four goals in the third, losing 4-1 at the Broomfield Event Center tonight.

Rocky Mountain drew the lone goal of the first period when Clay Plume picked up a cross-ice pass from Dorian Anneck. He skated in and fired in a slap shot at 6:06 from the top of the left circle beating all defenders and Odessa goaltender Mike Gorman. The Rage continued the streak from last night's game and outscored their opponent 14-9.

In the second period, fans saw a strong defensive effort by both teams. By the end of the period, Odessa had outshot the Rage 15-10, but the Rage had the advantage in scoring chances. Neither team could solve goaltenders Trevor Cunning (Rage) and Mike Gorman (Jackalopes) in the period.

Odessa dominated in the third period shutting down Rocky Mountain's offensive attack. Odessa tied up the game at 4:35 of the third period. Cunning stopped the initial shot by Mike Ramsay, the puck bounced off the back of a defender and Mike Rutter poked it in net. Odessa took the momentum from there.

Steve Shrum gave Odessa the lead and the eventual game-winning goal at 9:51 shooting from between the circles. Shrum added a goal on the rebound at 11:42. Mike Ramsay was credited with his third assist of the night. Pascal Bedard also earned an assist on the goal.

Odessa's Brian Swiniarski tallied an empty net goal at 19:02 to close out scoring.

The Rage falls to 16-36-7 (39 points) for fourth place in the northwest division and the Jackalopes improve to 24-30-7 (55 points) for fourth place in the southwest division.
