
Laredo Falls 3-2 To RiverKings

LAREDO, Texas - The defending CHL President's Cup Champion Laredo Bucks rallied to tie the game in the third period, before falling 3-2 to the Memphis RiverKings at the LEC on Saturday night in their 2006-07 regular season home finale. Defenseman Adam Rivet scored a pair of goals on St. Patrick's Day as overall Laredo remains a Southern Conference best 40-16-5 and they are third in the CHL with 85 total points in the race for the Governors' Cup. Memphis wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as forward Darrell Stoddard found forward Travis Banga wide open in the slot for a wrist shot at 1:32 for a 1-0 RiverKings advantage. Late in the period Memphis added to their lead as forward Louis Dumont backhanded home the rebound of his own shot at 19:37.
Neither team would score in the second period.
Early in the third the Bucks drew closer as forward Jeff Bes found Rivet in the left circle where he lifted home a wrist shot high stick side just 19 seconds into the frame. It was his 19th of the season. At 12:54 Rivet drew Laredo into a 2-2 tie as he fired a wrist shot from the slot for his second of the night. Late in the game the Bucks turned the puck over in their own end and forward Phil Aucoin had time in front to out wait Laredo goalie Eric Marvin and slip home the puck at 16:41. With time winding down the Bucks pulled the goalie and had a late power play chance, but the RiverKings held on. FINAL SCORE Memphis 3, Laredo 2.
Marvin allowed three goals on 31 shots in 59:00 of work and fell to 20-7-4. Larry Sterling stopped 37 of 39 shots and got his league leading 31st win to improve to 31-9-5. The Bucks were 1-3 on the power play, while Memphis went 0-3. Laredo out shot the RiverKings 39-31.
