Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA - Rancho Cucamonga scored in each of the first four innings, surging to a 10-6 victory over Inland Empire at LoanMart Field on Sunday evening for their third straight win.

The Quakes (36-33, 77-62) scored twice in the bottom of the first inning against 66ers' starter Harrison Cooney (1-15). Tim Locastro walked to start the rally. Cody Bellinger lined a double into the left-center field gap, scoring Locastro from first base. Alex Verdugo singled to right, plating Bellinger for a 2-0 lead.

Rancho Cucamonga doubled that margin against Cooney in the second. Delvis Morales walked to lead off the inning, but was caught attempting to steal second base. Dillon Moyer singled up the middle and was erased on a fielder's choice groundout by Johan Mieses. Locastro singled to center field, setting up runners at first and second. Bellinger ripped a double to right-center field, chasing Mieses and Locastro home to give the Quakes a 4-0 cushion. Bellinger drove in three runs and now has 103 RBIs on the season, which leads the California League.

The Quakes kept things rolling against Cooney in the third. Ogle stroked a leadoff single to right and came home on Willie Calhoun's double to left-center field. Morales hit a deep fly out to center field, allowing Calhoun to advance to third. With the infield in, Moyer blooped a single into shallow left-center field to drive in Calhoun, making it a 6-0 contest.

The home team kept the LoanMart Field crowd happy in the fourth inning. Cooney issued walks to Bellinger and Jacob Scavuzzo to start the inning. Verdugo reached on an infield single, loading the bases. Ogle crushed a bases-clearing triple into left-center field for a 9-0 lead. With Tyler Carpenter on in relief, Morales had an RBI groundout to score Ogle, increasing the cushion to 10-0.

Cooney lasted only three innings and pitched to four batters in the fourth, giving up ten runs and 11 hits while walking four and striking out one. The right-hander dropped his 15th consecutive decision and ends his season without a win since April 16th.

It took until the seventh inning for Inland Empire (26-43, 61-78) to break through against Quakes' starter Trevor Oaks (3-0). Kody Eaves hit a leadoff single to right field. Caleb Adams launched an opposite-field homer to right for his fourth of the season, trimming the deficit to 10-2.

Aside from that hiccup, Oaks was cruising to his third straight win. The 22-year-old right-hander from Riverside, CA allowed two runs, six hits and one walk while striking out seven over six and one-third innings. It was his longest outing in a Rancho Cucamonga uniform.

The 66ers made one final push in the ninth inning against reliever Joe Broussard. With two outs, Wade Wass lined a double over Devan Ahart's head in right field. Gabriel Santana singled to left, scoring Wass. Quinten Davis reached on an error by Moyer, the third baseman. Bo Way doubled to center field, plating Santana. Roberto Baldoquin singled to right, chasing Davis and Way home to make it a 10-6 game and raise some concerns among the Quakes' faithful. Mike Fish grounded out, however, to give Rancho Cucamonga its third consecutive win and sixth in their last seven games.

With the win and High Desert's loss to Lancaster on Sunday, the Quakes move into a tie for the best overall record in the South Division. Should a potential South Division Finals series come down to a decisive Game 5, the team with the best overall record would get home field advantage.

The victory also means that Rancho Cucamonga has evened the season series with Inland Empire, which now stands at 11 wins apiece.

The final game of the regular season takes place on Monday afternoon, with the Quakes going for the series sweep against the 66ers. Rancho Cucamonga will send right-hander Scott Barlow (8-3, 2.52 ERA) to the mound in his last tune-up before the postseason, while Inland Empire will counter with right-hander Jordan Kipper (6-12, 5.56 ERA) to close out their 2015 campaign. First pitch at LoanMart Field is scheduled for 2:05 pm. If you can't make it to the game, you can follow all the action on FOX Sports 1350 AM, beginning with the LoanMart Pregame Show at 1:50.
