Inland Empire 66ers News Release
Rancho Cucamonga, CA- The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes scored ten runs through the first four innings of Sunday's contest against the Inland Empire 66ers en route to a 10-6 win. It was the Quakes third straight win in the series and evened the season set at 11-11.
Rancho Cucamonga (77-62, 36-33) jumped on Inland Empire starter Harrison Cooney (1-15) with two runs in each of the first three innings and four in the fourth. Cooney was charged with ten earned runs over 3.0 IP on 11 hits with four walks, a hit batter and one K. He has taken the loss in each of his last seven outings and lost 15 consecutive decisions.
Trevor Oaks (3-0) was dominant on the mound for the Quakes. The righty from Riverside, CA shutout the 66ers (61-78, 26-43) for six frames before finally allowing two runs in the seventh inning. With one out and Kody Eaves aboard, Caleb Adams drilled a two-run homer out to right to get IE on the board at 10-2. Adams and Eaves each had two hits in the loss. Oakes struck out seven and walked one man.
The 66ers relief corps of Tyler Carpenter and Brian Loconsole stopped the bleeding. Carpenter tossed three no hit innings with no walks and five Ks. He had just one man reach via an error. Loconsole tossed two innings and allowed two hits but faced only six batters as he coaxed two double plays.
The 66ers scored four runs in the top of the ninth aided by a misplayed double and a fielding error but could not complete the comeback. Wade Wass had two doubles for the 66ers while Bo Way, Roberto Baldoquin (2RBI) and Gabriel Santana joined Adams and Eaves with multi-hit games. Five Quakes had multi-hit games led by Tyler Ogle's three knocks including a three-run triple.
