Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Visalia, CA - The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes completed their seven-game road trip on Tuesday night with a 5-2 loss, falling to the Visalia Rawhide for a third straight game at Recreation Park.

Quakes' starting pitcher Matt Magill, returning from a strained left oblique, was dominating over 6 1/3 innings, but suffered the loss, his first since late-May.

Magill (9-3) allowed three runs on just three hits, striking out a career-high 12 hitters.

Visalia's Keon Broxton led off the game with a solo homer, his fourth of the year, as the Rawhide took a 1-0 lead.

The Quakes would tie the game in the next frame though, as Pedro Guerrero's RBI single would bring home Tony Delmonico, evening the game at a run apiece.

Visalia took the lead for good in the bottom of the second though, as Magill gave up another solo homer, this time to Alfredo Marte, making it 2-1. After allowing the homer, Magill settled in and retired the next 11 straight hitters.

Things fell apart for the Quakes in the seventh, as Visalia scored three runs on just one hit, taking a commanding 5-1 lead against Magill and reliever Jordan Roberts. Mark Reed's two-run single highlighted the three-run frame.

Visalia starter Derek Eitel (6-7) was strong too, allowing just one run on four hits over seven innings.

Kevin Munson took over for Eitel in the eighth, firing a scoreless frame before handing off to Evan Marshall in the ninth. The Quakes got an unearned run in the ninth off Marshall, as J.T. Wise tripled and scored on an error by Rawhide shortstop Chris Owings, making it 5-2. But with the tying run in the on-deck circle, Marshall fanned Ramon Jean to end the game.

The Quakes (21-17, 59-49) head home on Wednesday, taking on Modesto in a four-game set. Red Patterson (1-1) will take on Dan Perkins (2-5) of the Nuts in the opener.

Wednesday will be another Terra Vista Animal Hospital Bark in the Ballpark. Game time is 7:05pm. Tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com.
