Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Visalia, CA - The Visalia Rawhide scored their second consecutive come-from-behind win over the Quakes, downing Rancho Cucamonga by a score of 2-1 on Monday night at Recreation Park.

While the deficit wasn't five runs like the night prior, Visalia rallied for a run in the eighth off Steve Smith and another in the ninth off Logan Bawcom, getting to the Quakes' bullpen for a second straight game.

Monday's game saw some outstanding starting pitching, as JonMichael Redding fired 6 1/3 innings of shutout baseball. Redding fanned seven and scattered six hits, but unfortunately suffered a no-decision.

Visalia's Eric Smith took a zero into the seventh inning as well, but finally allowed the Quakes to break through for a run.

Ramon Jean opened the inning with an infield single, then moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Nick Buss. With Rafael Ynoa at the plate and one out, Visalia reliever Taylor Sinclair unloaded the a wild pitch, allowing Jean to take third base. Ynoa eventually worked Sinclair for a walk, putting runners at first and third with just one out. With Jake Lemmerman at the plate, Ynoa broke for second base in an apparent steal attempt, but intentionally got hung up between first and second, so that Jean could race home ahead of the throw back to the plate. Ynoa eventually got tagged out, but not before Jean scored to make it 1-0.

Redding allowed consecutive hitters to reach with one out in the seventh, which forced the Quakes to go to the bullpen. Smith entered and retired both batters he faced, stranding two runners to end the seventh.

Smith didn't fare as well in the eighth, as he allowed a one-out walk to Matt Davidson, followed by a double to Bobby Borchering, putting runners at second and third with just one out.

Called upon to try and hold the one-run lead, Bawcom came out of the pen and got Alfredo Marte to ground to second, but on the play, Davidson scored to even the game at 1-1. Bawcom would strike out Jon Mark Owings for the final out of the eighth, keeping Borchering at third.

In the ninth, things got worse for the Quakes. Bawcom (0-2) walked Rossmel Perez to open the inning. Pinch-runner Mark Reed then advanced to second base on a passed ball by catcher Jessie Mier. Ryan LaPensee followed with a game-winning single down the left-field line, plating Reed to end the game.

Visalia reliever Adam Worthington (3-3) pitched a scoreless ninth to earn the win.

The Quakes (21-16, 57-46), now two games behind Lake Elsinore in the Second Half Standings, look to salvage the final game of the series in Visalia on Tuesday night. Matt Magill (9-2) will make his first start since missing his last turn in the rotation, as he'll take the hill on Tuesday. Visalia will go with Derek Eitel (5-7), with game time scheduled for 6:00pm.

On Wednesday, August 3rd, the Quakes return to The Epicenter to open a four-game series against Modesto. August 3rd will be another Terra Vista Animal Hospital Bark in the Ballpark. Game time is 7:05pm. Tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com.
