Lancaster JetHawks News Release

(BAKERSFIELD, CA) - The JetHawks had their opportunities Monday night as they played their third straight one-run game. This time, however, they came up just short as the JetHawks fell to the Bakersfield Blaze 4-3 at Sam Lynn Ballpark. Lancaster left 11 runners on base, including eight in the final four innings.

Bakersfield struck first with a home run in the opening frame but Lancaster came back. Jonathan Singleton, making his first start for the JetHawks since arriving Sunday night, singled to start the second inning and scored on a RBI single by Erik Castro. In the third inning, Miguel Arrendell swatted a leadoff double. Austin Wates drove him in with a single to give Lancaster the lead. Wates worked his way to third base and score on a wild pitch to give Lancaster a two-run edge.

JetHawks starter Jose Cisnero was working towards his fourth straight victory. At one point he struck out four straight hitters and held the lead until the fifth inning. The Blaze finally got back onto the scoreboard with two hits, two walks and a rare balk call to take the lead.

Lancaster threatened that lead repeatedly over the final innings but was unable to get the tying runners across. They left the bases loaded in the sixth inning, then loaded them again in the eighth before running into an out after a pitch in the dirt. In the ninth inning, the JetHawks left the tying runner at second and the go ahead runner a first.

Singleton had two hits for the JetHawks while playing first base. Wates, Castro, and Jonathan Meyer each had two hits as well. Wes Musick pitched three innings of scoreless relief.

With a win Tuesday night at Sam Lynn Ballpark the JetHawks would clinch the season series from the Blaze. Zach Grimmett (4-8) will start for Lancaster against Curtis Partch (6-11) of the Blaze. The game starts at 7:45 and will be broadcast live on radio by 87.7 Kickin' Country and online at CSN at JetHawks.com (click the listen live link). The Pre-Game Show starts at 7:30.

The JetHawks return home Wednesday, August 3 to open a four-game homestand against the Inland Empire 66ers. For tickets and other information, call (661) 726-5400 or visit JetHawks.com.
