Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Lake Elsinore, CA - The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes suffered their first setback of the second half, as the Lake Elsinore Storm held on for a 6-5 at The Diamond, in Monday's series-opener.

Storm closer Miles Mikolas endured a wild ninth, as he loaded the bases with no outs, but somehow hung on to a one-run advantage to preserve the win and earn his 12th save.

Trailing 6-5, Rafael Ynoa earned a lead-off walk. After failing to move Ynoa to second with a bunt, Jake Lemmerman singled to right, moving the tying run to second. Anthony Jackson followed with a walk, loading the bases for Nick Buss.

Buss ended up lining out to shortstop Jeudy Valdez for the first out. Angelo Songco then popped up to Valdez for the second out, before Mikolas struck out J.T. Wise looking to end the game.

The Storm broke a 5-5 tie in the seventh against Javier Solano (2-2). Dan Meeley opened the inning with a double to center field. Reymond Fuentes followed with a sac bunt that was thrown away for an error, allowing Meeley to score the eventual game-winner.

The Quakes rallied from an early 3-1 first-inning deficit. Jackson's RBI double brought the Quakes to within a run in the third, as he brought home Ynoa to make it 3-2.

In the fourth, Wise (11) and Gorman Erickson (6) hit back-to-back home runs on consecutive pitches by Storm starter Matt Lollis, taking a 4-3 lead.

Against Storm reliever Hayden Beard in the fifth, Erickson singled and scored on Tony Delmonico's two-out RBI double, increasing Rancho's lead to 5-3.

Quakes' starter Red Patterson battled through five innings in his debut on Monday night, allowing five runs, three earned, on six hits.

An error by rehabbing Dodgers' shortstop Rafael Furcal opened the door for a pair of unearned runs in the fifth, as the Storm evened the game at 5-5.

Storm reliever Zach Herr (4-2) pitched a scoreless eighth for the win.

Rancho (4-1, 42-33) will send Andres Santiago (3-2) to the hill on Tuesday, looking to get back on track. The Storm, now 5-0 in the second half, will counter with Jerry Sullivan (4-3) at 7:05pm from The Diamond.

The Quakes will return to The Epicenter on Thursday night, taking on the Lake Elsinore Storm in the opening game of a four-game home stand. Thursday is another Buffalo Wild Wings Thirsty Thursday. Game time is 7:05pm. Tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. We hope to see you at The Epicenter...GO Quakes!
