Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Rancho Cucamonga, CA -- The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes dropped the series against the Lake Elsinore Storm, losing 2-1 on Thursday at LoanMart Field.
Dodgers major league rehabber Casey Fien pitched a scoreless inning in relief for the Quakes. He allowed two hits and stuck out two. Fien threw 22 pitches, 16 for strikes.
Lake Elsinore scored first to make it 1-0 in the top of the second inning. Michael Gettys led off the frame with a double, and later scored after Tommy Bergjans uncorked a wild pitch.
The Storm added to their lead in the fourth. Ty France singled with one out, and advanced to third base after Gettys walked, yet Quakes catcher Garrett Kennedy didn't realize it was ball four. Kennedy thought France was stealing second base, and threw the ball into center field for an error. The next hitter, Josh Naylor, brought France home with an RBI groundout to give Lake Elsinore the 2-0 lead.
Rancho Cucamonga cut the Storm's lead in half in the fifth inning. Johan Mieses hit a leadoff solo home run, his team-leading 24th of the season to make it a 2-1 game.
Storm starter Enyel De Los Santos (4-3) earned the win after allowing just one earned run on four hits in seven innings. He did not walk a better and struck out four. Colby Blueberg pitched a 1-2-3 eighth inning, and Phil Maton slammed the door shut with a scoreless ninth, earning his eighth save of the season.
Bergjans (2-13) was dealt the tough-luck defeat. He allowed just two hits and two runs (one earned) in six innings. After Fien pitched a scoreless seventh, Alex Hermeling pitched two clean frames.
Prior to tonight's game, the Quakes and Dodgers announced an extension through 2018 of their Player Development Contract. Dodgers Director of Player Development, Gabe Kapler, was on hand to celebrate the continued partnership.
The Quakes (23-24, 65-51) continue their six-game home stand with game one against the Visalia Rawhide on Friday. Rancho's starting pitcher for the game one matchup is LHP Michael Boyle (0-1, 15.26 ERA). The Rawhide will send RHP Markus Solbach (1-1, 4.73 ERA) to the mound. First pitch at LoanMart Field is at 7:05 p.m.
