Early Offense Sinks Nuts in 10-8 Loss

Modesto, CA. - After falling behind in the third, the Modesto Nuts mounted a comeback that fell shy in a 10-8 loss against the Stockton Ports on Thursday night at John Thurman Field.

In the final three innings, the Nuts (21-26; 47-70) brought the tying run to the plate but could not push across the tying or go-ahead runs in the three-game series finale against the Ports (21-26; 48-69).

In the ninth, Dom Nunez reached on an error to start the inning. Drew Weeks followed with a single but Cody Stull (S, 3/4) retired the next three hitters in order including an eleven-pitch strikeout of Rogers to end the game. Stull worked the final two innings and allowed just one hit with a strikeout and no walks.

In the first, the Nuts opened up a lead with four runs against Ports starter Grant Holmes (W, 9-5). Josh Fuentes ripped a two-run shot. Ryan Stephens scored on a wild pitch. Weeks capped the frame with a RBI single. He finished 4-for-5 with two RBI.

Max White went 3-for-5 with a RBI. Forrest Wall was 3-for-5 with a double and two runs scored.

Christen Talley (L, 0-1) worked just 2.1 innings allowing ten hits and nine runs with one walk and no strikeouts in his California League debut with the Nuts. The Ports opened their lead up in the third inning with a five spot. Richie Martin cranked a grand slam. Sandber Pimentel walked with the bases loaded.
