
Joel Payamps Fires Seven Shutout Frames in 4-0 Rawhide Win

VISALIA, CA - The Visalia Rawhide (69-48, 23-24) returned the favor in the rubber match, shutting out the Bakersfield Blaze (62-55, 25-22) 4-0 to win the series as Joel Payamps fired seven shutout innings to earn the win on Thursday night at Recreation Ballpark.
Bakersfield's best chance to score was in the top of the second inning against RHP Joel Payamps (5-3, 4.20) when the Dominican born righty hit two batters and allowed an infield single. With two outs Payamps induced a ground ball by C Daniel Torres to end the threat.
From the third inning on Bakersfield mustered just three base runners on a couple of singles and a walk through the seventh inning.
Payamps final line was seven innings pitched, three hits allowed, no runs, one walk and he struck out eight in the win.
RHP Osmer Morales (3-4, 3.94) got through his first two innings scoreless but in the third with two outs RF Victor Reyes was aboard on a fielder's choice ball. Big Leaguer DH A.J. Pollock lined a hit and run single to right field and Reyes came all the way around from first to score and give Visalia a 1-0 lead.
Morales logged five innings and allowed just three hits and one run while walking two and he recorded nine strikeouts but took the tough luck loss.
Visalia, in the sixth, against RHP Vinny Nittoli added to their lead. With two outs 3B Marty Herum doubled and 2B Henry Castillo drove him in with a two-out RBI single to push the lead to 2-0 Visalia.
Nittoli lasted two innings and gave up one run on four hits and he struck out one batter.
The Rawhide plated the final two runs in the bottom of the eighth when RHP Ramon Morla entered the game. Morla allowed an infield single to DH Cody Regis and the he hit 1B Austin Byler. He then fired back-to-back wild pitches to bring home Regis and LF Grant Heyman drove in Byler for a 4-0 Rawhide lead.
LHP Gabriel Moya pitched a scoreless eighth inning to earn hold number 10 and RHP Cameron Gann pitched a one, two, three ninth inning to earn save number six.
The Rawhide now trail the Blaze by just 2.0 games in the second half North Division race and increase their lead to 7.0 games for the best overall record in the north.
