Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Lake Elsinore, CA-- The Rancho Cucamonga offense struggled in Lake Elsinore on Saturday night, dropping a 5-2 decision to the Storm.

Storm starter Chris Huffman (9-3) worked past some early struggles and ended up striking out a season-best seven batters, allowing just one earned run over five innings of work in the win.

Matt Beaty had three of Rancho's nine hits on the night, as Rancho lost for the third time in their last four games overall.

Quakes' starter Tommy Bergjans gave up a run in the first, but saw his team respond against Huffman in the second. Johan Mieses walked to open the inning and Joey Curletta followed by reaching on an error. Dian Toscano and Julian Leon followed with run-scoring hits, giving Rancho a 2-1 advantage.

That would be all for the Quakes though, as they couldn't muster anything the rest of the way, leaving a total of ten runners stranded.

The Storm took the lead for good with three in the fourth. Franmil Reyes had the game-tying hit, as he singled home Josh VanMeter to make it 2-2. A sac fly by Trae Santos gave the Storm the lead at 3-2, as Ricardo Valenzuela scored from third base. A.J. Kennedy capped the inning with an RBI single, making it 4-2.

Bergjans (2-10), who struck out eight batters on the night, hurt his own cause in the fifth. After giving up a lead-off double, Bergjans took a come-backer and looked like he had Edwin Moreno caught between second and third, but his throw to third went in the dirt, allowing Moreno to score an unearned run and make it 5-2.

Rancho (15-14, 57-42) will send Isaac Anderson (1-0) to the mound on Sunday, in just his second start as a Quake. Thomas Dorminy (1-5) will be on the hill for the Storm, with game time set for 5:00pm on Sunday night.
