Modesto Nuts News Release

Modesto, CA. - A pitcher's duel was ended in the ninth as the Modesto Nuts fell 3-0 against the Bakersfield Blaze on Friday night at John Thurman Field.

With nothing but zeros on the board heading to the ninth, the Blaze (19-9; 56-42) plated three runs to take the lead and sink the Nuts (11-17; 37-61) in game two of a four-game series.

Tyler Marlette ripped a double off the wall against Logan Cozart (L, 2-3) to start the ninth. Chantz Mack walked in front of a sac bunt to put two in scoring position. Cozart struck out Joe DeCarlo before he walked Braden Bishop with two outs to load the bases. Gianfranco Wawoe hit a soft flair into the hole at shortstop for a RBI infield single. Aaron Barbosa ripped a two-run single to cement the Nuts' fate.

Parker French was wonderful over seven shutout innings. He struck out a career-high-tying nine and did not walk a batter. Zack Littell matched him through six shutout innings allowing just two singles with one walk and five strikeouts.

Jake Zokan (S, 5/5) allowed two singles in the ninth but induced a line out by Shane Hoelscher to end the threat.

Game three of a four-game set between the Nuts and Blaze starts at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday night. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 7:00 p.m. Listen live online.
