Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Lancaster, CA - The Lancaster JetHawks played like they were the ones looking to wrap up the Second Half South Division Title on Saturday night, hammering the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes by a score of 12-5 at The Hangar in Lancaster.
With a High Desert loss, the Quakes could have secured the #2 seed with a win over the JetHawks, but got outplayed from the start, as they were down 4-0 after one and 7-1 after two.
Quakes' starter Manaurys Correa (1-11) struggled in his final start of the year, as he surrendered a two-run homer to Brian Pellegrini and a solo shot to Lee Cruz, as the JetHawks had a 4-0 lead after just one inning.
Angel Castillo ripped his 21st homer of the year with two outs in the third, putting the Quakes on the board at 4-1 over JetHawks starter Robert Donovan (2-2).
Correa continued to struggle in the second, as he allowed a two-run homer to Jose Altuve and a sac fly to David Flores, as the JetHawks took a commanding 7-1 lead.
Darwin Perez, who finished the night with three hits, had an infield single to plate a run in the third, as the Quakes made it a 7-2 game.
The JetHawks poured it on even more though, getting to Correa for three more runs in the bottom of the third to take a 10-2 lead.
Christian Scholl came out of the bullpen and surrendered an RBI single to Bryce Lane in the fourth and a solo homer to Flores in the sixth, as the JetHawks took a 12-2 advantage.
Perez struck for a three-run double in the ninth off of JetHawks' reliever Jose Trinidad, his third hit of the night to cap the scoring at 12-5.
Ikko Sumi had a career-night for the Quakes, as he finished 4-for-4, raising his season-long average to .238.
The Quakes (37-31) will try again on Sunday, as they look to wrap up the Second Half South Division Crown, as they lead High Desert (36-32) by just one game with two to play in the regular season. In order to clinch the division, the Quakes need a win and a High Desert loss on Sunday.
Garrett Richards (3-1) will take on Lancaster's Kyle Greenwalt (8-7) at 5:00pm in the third game of the four-game series.
