Lancaster JetHawks News Release

(LANCASTER, CA) - Rancho Cucamonga scored three runs in the top of the 10th inning and held off Lancaster for a 13-10 victory over the JetHawks at Clear Channel Stadium Sunday. The three-run frame was the final blow in a see-saw game that saw Lancaster come back from a five-run deficit, only to come up empty in the end.

The Quakes jumped out to a big lead at the outset of the contest, scoring four runs on five hits against JetHawks starter Kyle Greenwalt in the first inning.

Rancho Cucamonga tacked on two more runs in the second to open up a 6-0 lead. But Lancaster got on the board in the bottom of the second when Lee Cruz socked a solo home run, which made it a 6-1 ballgame.

The Quakes answered with two more runs, thanks in part to two JetHawks errors, in the top of the third.

Trailing 8-2 in the bottom of the fourth, Lancaster drew closer when Jonathan Villar smacked a three-run home run off Quakes reliever Jose Perez. Villar's blast made it an 8-5 contest.

After the Quakes got a two-run homer from Mike Trout in the top of the sixth, the JetHawks scored three runs in the seventh off Matt Meyer. David Flores and Andy Simunic each hit RBI singles in the frame and Bryce Lane added an RBI groundout.

One inning later, Lancaster tied it when Brian Pellegrini belted a two-run homer over the left field wall of Nick Pugliese to even the score at 10-10.

With the score tied at 10-10 in the top of the 10th, Darwin Perez hit an RBI single and Luis Jimenez followed with a two-run ground rule double that gave the Quakes a 13-10 lead. Closer Eddie McKiernan tossed a scoreless 10th inning to earn his 28th save for Rancho Cucamonga. Puglisi (4-4) picked up the win while David Carpenter (1-1) was charged with the loss.

With the win, the Quakes improved to 38-31 in the second half and 77-82 overall. Lancaster dropped to 31-38 in the second half and 54-85 overall.
