September 5, 2010 - California League (CalL1)
San Jose Giants News Release

Juan Perez hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning as the San Jose Giants overcome a six-run deficit to shock the Visalia Rawhide, 7-6, on Saturday evening at Municipal Stadium. San Jose trailed by an early 6-0 margin, but recovered with seven unanswered runs while the Giants bullpen combined for 5 1/3 no-hit innings to conclude the contest. The win improves San Jose's record to 74-64 - one game ahead of the Stockton Ports (73-65) for the top overall mark in the North Division. Two games remain in the regular season.

Perez's (2-for-4, HR, 2 RBI) 13th home run of the season put the Giants in front while Ehire Adrianza (3-for-4, 2 2B, RBI) added three hits, including a pair of doubles, to lead the San Jose offensive attack. Francisco Peguero (2-for-4, SB) extended his hitting streak to 18 games and Brandon Crawford (2-for-4, 2B, RBI) also contributed two hits.

Eric Stolp (2 1/3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 SO), Dan Otero (2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 SO) and Jason Stoffel (1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 SO) combined for shutout relief as Visalia didn't record a hit in the contest after the top of the fourth inning. Otero (3-0) was credited with the win while Stoffel picked-up his 25th save of the year.

Trailing 6-0, the Giants began their comeback in the bottom of the fifth inning. Crawford started the frame with a single and then advanced to third when Adrianza doubled. Drew Biery followed with a sacrifice fly to left plating Crawford with San Jose's first run of the night.

The Giants then exploded for four runs in the bottom of the sixth to cut the deficit to one. With one out, Jose Flores singled before Johnny Monell stepped to the plate and belted a two-run homer to deep right center field. The home run, Monell's team-leading 18th of the season, brought San Jose to within 6-3. Charlie Culberson was up next and he continued the rally with an infield single. After Culberson stole second, Crawford hammered an RBI double to right to make it 6-4. Adrianza followed with an RBI double of his own trimming the Visalia lead to 6-5.

In the bottom of the seventh, Peguero started the inning with a single before Perez drove a 1-0 pitch from Rawhide reliever Ryan Robowski over the fence in left field for a two-run homer.

With San Jose ahead by a single run, Otero issued a one-out walk to Kyle Greene in the top of the eighth, but quickly got out of the inning when Alberto Diaz bounced into a 5-4-3 double play. Stoffel then worked a perfect top of the ninth, including strikeouts of the last two hitters, Josh Ford and Niko Gallego, to end the game.

Kelvin Marte started on the mound for the Giants and was roughed up for six runs (all earned) on six hits over 3 2/3 innings. The left-hander, who was making his California League debut, surrendered four runs in the top of the first inning before Visalia struck for single runs in the second and fourth frames.

Stolp relieved Marte with two runners in scoring position and two outs in the top of the fourth and promptly struck out league MVP Paul Goldschmidt to get out of the inning. Stolp then fired 1-2-3 fifth and sixth innings before Otero tossed a perfect top of the seventh.
