(LANCASTER, CA) - Jose Altuve went 3-for-4 with a two-run home runs and four RBIs as Lancaster scored 10 runs in the first three innings and cruised to a 12-5 victory over Rancho Cucamonga at Clear Channel Stadium Saturday. The win snapped Lancaster's four-game losing streak.
Altuve singled to lead off the game for Lancaster in the bottom of the first to set the tone for the game. The first four JetHawk batters collected hits off Quakes starter Manaurys Correa, including back-to-back homers from Brian Pellegrini and Lee Cruz. The offensive outburst gave the Jet Hawks a 4-0 advantage.
After Rancho Cucamonga scored a run in the top of the second, the JetHawks answered with three more runs in the bottom of the frame. Altuve smacked a two-run home run and David Flores drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, which extend Lancaster's lead to 7-1.
The Quakes scored a run in top of the third, but Lancaster responded with three more in the bottom of the frame to chase Correa from the ballgame. Correa (1-11) allowed 11 hits and 10 earned runs in just three innings of work. The right-hander finished the season with an 0-5 record and a 14.12 ERA in five starts against the JetHawks.
Meanwhile, JetHawks starter Robert Donovan (2-2) allowed seven hits and two earned runs in six innings of work to earn his second win for Lancaster.
With the win, Lancaster improved to 31-37 in the second half and 54-84 overall. The Quakes dropped to 37-31 in the second half and 76-62 overall
Lancaster will seek to make it two wins in a row on Sunday night against Rancho Cucamonga at Clear Channel Stadium. Right-hander Kyle Greenwalt (8-7, 5.72) gets the start for the JetHawks. The Quakes are expected to counter with right-hander Garrett Richards (4-11, 3.69).
